    Apple Releases Pages 1.1 for iPad

    Today, Apple released Pages 1.1 for the iPad.

    The new version of Pages, Apple’s touch-based word processor for the iPad, includes UI refinements and improvements for Microsoft Word support.

    The enhancements in Pages 1.1 include:

    • Toolbar and ruler landscape support
    • Auto fit in landscape mode
    • Import/Export functions for Microsoft Word documents
    • Fixes a scrolling after movie import issue
    • New localization support

    Pages can be purchased from the App Store for $9.99. The update to 1.1 is a free update to current Pages for iPad owners. You can purchase Pages or download the update using iTunes or the App Store app on the iPad. [iTunes App Store Link]

    Rumor: Apple To Give Mobile Me Subscriptions Away

    File this under “Crazy Ass Rumor of the Week”, but if Electronista.com and MacDailyNews.com are right, Apple might be feeling some pressure from Google’s free cloud services.

    “A tentative new rumor asserts that Apple may turn MobileMe into a free service. The plan would drop the $99 annual fee and let anyone with an iPad, iPod, iPhone or Mac get the online sync service for free.”

    “Free MobileMe access would likely be a shot across the bow of Google, for whom online sync has been an inherent feature in most of its software. Android users can sync accounts and contacts for free through Google’s existing services. Apple handheld owners can already sync Google features to some extent but don’t have the live updating of more unless they use Exchange or MobileMe.”

    Personally, the only reason why I don’t have a MobileMe.com account is that I really don’t feel like paying Apple another $69-99 a year for an email account – all be it a really handy email account. If the service was made available to me for free since I own two iPods, an iPad, a MacBook, and my recently purchased 17-inch MacBook Pro, hell ya, I’d jump on MobileMe in a second. Google who?

    Until we get some more details, however, I’m going to stick with my Google Gmail and Calendar accounts.

    Admitting I Have a Problem

    Another long work day has come to an end and I’m “degearing” for the night. Just a few minutes ago, I realized why my blog has the word “Fanatics” in it.

    Right now, on my person, I’m carrying my Sprint Palm Pre, a 2G Apple iPhone, a 5th gen iPod, my iPad, and my new company issued Verizon BlackBerry Storm2 9550. Oh, and let’s not forget the 17-inch MacBook Pro that I needed at work today.

    So, I have to ask myself, why the hell and I carrying all this gear anyway? “They” say that admitting you have a problem is the first step. I’ll have to pencil that into my calendar at some point?

    I’ll have to take a break from all of this technology by drinking this can of Diet Coke.

    Amazon’s Kindle Coming To Target

    According to The Consumerist website, Amazon, feeling some pressure from the Apple iPad, will begin selling their Kindle ebook reader at early as this weekend at retail locations. The first “brick and mortar” retail chain to get the Kindle is reportedly Target.

    “Now that the iPad is upon them, Amazon has finally made a deal to unleash their popular Kindle e-reader to the bricks-and-mortar retail market. Amazon has made a deal with Target that will have Kindles in some of their stores as early as this Sunday.

    The first stores to get the Kindle will be in south Florida and the chain’s flagship store in downtown Minneapolis. These stores should start selling Kindles on April 25.”

    Still Having iPad Wi-Fi Problems?

    I’ve been using my iPad daily to connect to Wi-Fi hot spots at home, at the office, and around town. I did get bit by the Wi-Fi connectivity error that some people reported during the first week of the iPad’s US availability, but I have not run into trouble since I rebooted my iPad. Anyone else still having trouble?

    Sprint 4G Case for Apple iPad

    I don’t know if the folks over at Sprint are crazy or crazy like a fox. It looks like Sprint has a back door marketing campaign for Apple customers, like me, for their 4G network. The latest gimmick is Sprint’s 4G Case of the iPad.

    The good folks over at BoyGeniusReport.com summed it up best by writing:

    “How can you not love Sprint when it pulls stunts like this? Following up on its 4G iPhone commercial, the Now Network has absolutely outdone itself with the introduction of the Sprint 4G Case for iPad. That’s right… the Sprint 4G Case for the freakin’ iPad.”

    iPad: A Real Life Test

    This morning my girls, wife, and I are heading off to a cheerleading competition and my iPad will be coming along for the ride.

    I plan on putting my iPad through a real life performance test. We’ll be inside today, so sunlight won’t be a problem as I reported yesterday at t-ball on my spf360 Twitter account.

    I plan to have Wi-Fi on, if there is coverage, catching up on the day’s news in the WSJ and NY Times Editor’s Choice apps. Perhaps I’ll play a few games of Firemint’s Flight Control HD. Also on the agenda is reading some pages in iBooks and watching some TV shows.

    So how well will the iPad’s battery hold up? I’m not sure but we are going to find out together. I’ll be posting updates on my spf360 Twitter account throughout the morning with battery status updates.
