HTC EVO 4G – Sprint’s Best One Day Sales Leader

Sprint has announced that Friday’s launch of the HTC EVO 4G was the best handset launch, ever. The one day sales of the EVO 4G on Friday, June 4th, topped last year’s sales leader, the Palm Pre that features the webOS platform.

Friday sales of HTC EVO 4G marked the largest quantity of a single phone sold in one day ever for Sprint – the record was previously held by both Samsung InstinctTM and Palm PreTM. In addition, the total number of HTC EVO 4G devices sold on launch day was three times the number of Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre devices sold over their first three days on the market combined.
“HTC EVO 4G is a clear winner for customers with the powerful combination of an amazing multimedia experience in 3G coverage areas that becomes even better in our growing number of 4G markets. It is terrific to see customers react so positively to this device and the innovative experience it brings to them,” said Dan Hesse, Sprint CEO.
The record pace of HTC EVO 4G sales led to temporary shortages of the device at some of the 22,000 sales locations across the United States, including Sprint retail stores, national retail partners including RadioShack, Best Buy and Walmart, and indirect dealers. Sprint and HTC are diligently working around the clock to increase inventory in all sales channels. Additional shipments are arriving in retail stores on a regular basis with many stores seeing daily deliveries.
“HTC EVO 4G has more than lived up to our expectations that it would be one of the most anticipated technology products of the year,” said Kevin Packingham, senior vice president – Product Development for Sprint. “We are working closely with our partners at HTC to increase the supply and get EVO 4G into the hands of everyone who wants one as quickly as possible.”

Is Your Palm Pre a “Treo”?

Why is it a year later that I am still calling my Palm “Pre” a “Treo”? I guess some old habits die hard. Maybe it’s because I still subconsciously haven’t accepted “Pre” as a cool name for my phone?

It is interesting because I don’t have the same problem with “Palm OS” and “Palm webOS”.

    Admitting I Have a Problem

Another long work day has come to an end and I’m “degearing” for the night. Just a few minutes ago, I realized why my blog has the word “Fanatics” in it.

Right now, on my person, I’m carrying my Sprint Palm Pre, a 2G Apple iPhone, a 5th gen iPod, my iPad, and my new company issued Verizon BlackBerry Storm2 9550. Oh, and let’s not forget the 17-inch MacBook Pro that I needed at work today.

So, I have to ask myself, why the hell and I carrying all this gear anyway? “They” say that admitting you have a problem is the first step. I’ll have to pencil that into my calendar at some point?

I’ll have to take a break from all of this technology by drinking this can of Diet Coke.

That little shop happens to be the world’s largest technology company, and certainly one of the most revered companies in all of tech-land. Can you say “webOS acceleration”? We’re pretty excited, and pleased we surprised the world again.”

In a separate posting, HP wrote:

Palm Gets A Cool Pre Plus Ad

I’m not sure who is responsible for the ad, Palm or AT&T, but I really don’t care. I just saw a cool Palm Pre ad for the new Palm Pre Plus on AT&T! Finally! An ad that shows of what Palm’s hardware an webOS can do without any creepy actors!

DataViz – Docs To Go for webOS Update

DataViz has posted a long, long, long over due update on the status of their Documents To Go application for the Palm webOS platform on their Office Mobility Blog.

We at DataViz would like to apologize for not responding sooner to our loyal Palm customers about the availability of Documents To Go for webOS. We have felt it best to keep our public webOS discussion to a minimum until we had concrete information about our webOS products to offer you.

We are continuing our efforts to work with Palm to clear the path for a full editing version of Documents To Go. However, given the current environment at Palm, as well as the necessary collaboration with the device manufacturer that is required to bring an app like ours to a platform like webOS, our Documents To Go editor product for webOS is essentially at a standstill.

As soon as we have any additional information, we will inform you immediately.

Thanks for your passion surrounding our solution.
    Kathleen McAneany
Business Manager, Documents To Go Palm

It is unfortunate that DataViz and Palm can’t get things lined up and getting Documents To Go for webOS out the door. Docs To Go is one of my favorite mobile applications and for the last 10 months I’ve had to go it (almost) alone as webOS only includes DataViz’s Doc View application.

The good news is that if you are on virtually any other smartphone OS, you can get rich document viewing and editing capabilities via Documents To Go.

Here’s to hoping that we get Documents To Go for the Pre’s birthday which is coming up on June 6th.

    Facebook App for webOS 1.2.0

The new Facebook client adds Facebook updates to webOS so you can receive Facebook notifications in the webOS notifications area. (See the image below to see what the notifications for Facebook looks like.)

I’m not the biggest Facebook user, but I did install the update yesterday and I think Facebook users (fanatics or not) will like the new feature. With this release of Facebook , I believe that the Palm webOS client is on par with the iPhone OS client in everyway. Way to go Palm!

If you have an earlier version of the webOS Facebook app, you can upgrade to version 1.2.0 using the Updates application. If you don’t have the Facebook app installed on your Palm Pre or Pixi, you can get it today from the App Catalog.
