Seven years ago today, former Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveiled the original 2010 iPad to the world. I really love using my iPad every day. It is a great device that I love using at home to browse the web (iPad Air) and get work done at the office (iPad Pro 12.9″).

A few days ago I talked about wanting to get NeXT’s OpenStep running on my MacBook Pro in either Parallels or VMware Fusion.
I’m narrowing in on a vendor that has the software I’m looking for. Bonus points for the vendor for having the authority to resell the software with Apple’s blessing. I will post more details about the vendor and purchasing options once the software becomes available for purchase.
In the mean time, check out the video below for a ‘live’ demo of NeXTStep running on a greyscale NeXT Cube powered by none other than the Motorola 68040 processor. The same processor that was used in the 1991 Apple Macintosh Quadra 900.

With the one year anniversary of Steve Jobs passing coming up on October 5, I’m once again thinking about getting NeXT’s OpenStep installed on my MacBook Pro.
NeXT’s operating system software, NextStep 3 and OpenStep 4 wouldn’t be installed directly on my Mac hardware, but rather I’d install it as a guest OS in Parallels or Fusion. The problem, really, is that legal copies of NeXT’s software is hard to come by and my knowledge of UNIX and Linux is painfully low.
The Mac On Intel blog looks like a good place to get started.
If I’m going to get this done by October 5, it’s going to take a lot of long nights and help from the community. Can I do it? I don’t know, but I’ll give it a try.

Originally released in theaters in a limited run, The Lost Interview gives us a look at Steve while he was still running NeXT Computer and a little computer animation studio called Pixar.
According to an article that appeared in FOX News’ The Daily earlier this week, Apple considers this interview “too controversial” which is in stark contrast to their promotion of Jobs All Things Digital interviews released by the Wall Street Journal.

Earlier today, Apple CEO Tim Cook spoke at Goldman Sachs technology conference. If you missed the event, like me, you can still read a transcript of the Q&A session with Cook thanks to the efforts of the good folks over at MacRumors.com.
“Apple is this unique culture and unique company. You can’t replicate it. I’m not going to witness or permit the slow undoing of it. I believe in it so deeply.
Steve grilled in all of us over many years, the company should revolve around great products. We should stay extremely focused on a few things, rather than try to do so many that we did nothing well. We should only go into markets where we can make a significant contribution to society, not just sell a lot of products.”
How can you not love Apple’s products? Like Apple or not, the company is in good hands and will continue to lead the technology sector for years to come. I’d think Steve would approve.
